Every item in the
catalog has an Approval flag
attached to it, which:
- If
it is cleared, then normal business rules apply: only if a Shopping Cart
containing the item exceeds the user's Spending Limit, is it routed
to their designated approver. This is hierarchical approval.
- If
it is set, then normal business rules are overruled: if a Shopping Cart
contains the item, regardless of the user's Spending Limit, it is
always routed to their designated approver. This is commodity
approval.
This provision is used to control the purchase of
luxury or commonly abused items. When the approval flag for an item requires purchase
approval, a Shopping Cart containing that item is always routed to the user's specified
approver, regardless of whether the dollar value of the Shopping Cart exceeds the
user's Spending Limit or not.
